School Project: Reimagined

  • Joshua Nai

So my teachers challenged us to pick one established artists' work and change it to another medium. I chose yorushika's (“plagiarism". tousaku 盗作 とうさく ) and I wanted to share it with you guys!

This is actually me second attempt of the artwork. The artwork below was my first.

for this artwork, I wanted to present the conflicts and issues seen and felt in the song. From the repetition of the not being enough or never having enough.

Feelings of loss, desperation, the pressure to pretend.
This is seen in the tears that look like smiling faces + the smiling cartoony icons all around the hair.

The sweet also made a smile (hopefully its clear enough).
The harsh shading on the background also hints that this character stands underneath a spotlight.
This applys to the drawing as the writer of this song (n-buna) probably wanted to tell his own story as well.
how there is this nagging feeling that all he is doing is ”plagiarism".

The number of the heart signifies a false fulfillment or false love/the love he is not looking for yet is given. The number of views, likes, songs on charts. They are all worth celebrating for, but they aren't the love he yearns for as seen in the lyrics of the song where it says "I want to learn of love".
This first draft also had the same idea but I had a more direct approach to the song. Such as elements of music notes.

note*
the words '空' at the hands simply means "empty". I weren't as intentional as I was for the second piece. But it did turn out great (though theres many places I can change).
