SELF ILLUSTRATION SERIES

This illustration series looks at the make up of the face and its features in an abstract and actual representation, I used digital application such as photograph and Abode Illustrator to achieve this, using the combination of a bright bold colour palette, opacity, layering, duplication, definition and thickness. The aim of this project was to create illustrations that celebrated the beauty and importance of our facial identity. I have a few methods of achieving the varied illustration outcomes: I take a photograph of the attendee and upload this into Adobe Illustrator. Using the pen tool I outline facial features such as face shape, nose, eyes, cheeks, lips, eyebrows, eyelashes, laugh lines. These features are highlighted to visually celebrate their unique facial make up. Using the foundation of facial features illustrated from photographs, I take these highlighted features and create a new document, place this on a blank page and working into the drawing playing with a bright, bold colour palette, opacity, layering, duplication, definition and thickness. I use the blank canvas on Abode Illustrator to create freehand drawings of the facial make up. I usually work in unison of the eye, nose and lips, created from free flowing shapes. Once I feel that I have a foundation to the drawing I use a bright colour palette, opacity, layering, duplication, definition and thickness to build the illustration. When I finished producing this series I experimented with layering these three styles of drawings to create a striking illustrations of the facial features.
