The first project in a series of project centred around the idea of a 'Sensory Playground', 'Exploring the 5 senses' is a collection of samples that can be interacted with, manipulated and uniquely explored by the observer of this work. Like the of this work suggests, the group of samples engage all 5 senses: touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing/sound. Each sample focuses on one or two of these senses in a variety of ways, such as using scented latex or being stuffed with bells and squeakers. A 3D textural aspect goes alongside these techniques to capture the senses, and is created through beading techniques and use of mixed media materials Inspired by underwater sea life, the organic shapes and varying textures of the collection of samples aim to entice you to reach out and engage with the sample in a way you see fit. Therefore, your interaction and connection with the sensory playground will be different to the next person who encounters it.
