SHOPPING UTOPIA

  • Hayley Perriment

For this brief we were given the opportunity to propose a design for a new development of shops at Lancer Square, Kensington Church Street. I had to think innovatively about how to attract consumers to what once was an upmarket shopping destination, now however has been forgotten due to the attractions in shopping centers and on Oxford Street. I have developed the idea of a futuristic clothing store. This intertwines Internet shopping and physical shopping into one in order to achieve the best possible experience for the customer. The store does not display any items, the clothes are transported to the changing rooms through a pneumatic tube system. The inspiration was taken from the pneumatic tube system that once was in the department store on Kensington Church Street, Derry and Toms. The design of the shop intends to provide a new and exciting experience for people who may not have as much time to browse.
