Skateboard Design.

To combine two of the things I love most into one heartfelt project was truly an honour. Three businesses that I work with closely, "Dismal", "Pasty" and "The Loft" approached me a little while ago and explained that they felt as though they were missing out on an opportunity. As the three of them are clothes oriented brands that all derive from skateboard backgrounds, they didn't understand why they hadn't come together to create a collaborative skateboard. So, we sat down and started throwing ideas at the wall. We arrived at what felt like the most obvious answer, which was a three story house broken down into 3 segments. The basement being Dismal, the kitchen being Pasty (where they're typically made), and the loft, well, being The Loft. The whole project took about 2 months all in, lots of back and forth with variations of the overall design, adding/ subtracting, tweaking and generally making sure everything was perfect for the clients. As their brands are similar, but not the same, it was difficult to find a style that fits all. Each brand sent me a list of things they wanted to include in their segment and it was my job to tie it all together. In the end, everyone was over the moon with it. We created 100 of these decks, and held a launch at The Loft's store in Plymouth. The first four decks, we kept for each brand involved (mine sits pride and place over my work station), and we held a competition for someone to win one on the day. This was truly a fantastic project to be involved in, of which I would do a million times over.
