The brief was to investigate aspects of your creative process and tell a story through a design artefact. As this was the first project of my MA course, I used it as a reflection on my creative process used during my undergraduate on BA (Hons) Architecture. Picture a candle, a real slow burner, struggling to get going - that's me at the start of a project. This frustrates me massively, and I tend to wallow in the emotion of anger and let it swamp me for the majority of a project, not genuinely allowing me to connect and give my all to said proposal. I challenged myself to understand the frustration more and work with it, forming my brief: How might I overcome my frustration to enhance my creative process? An exploration of anger through the senses brought to light this concept of firstly needing to recognise one's frustration and to say 'yes, I am frustrated, and that's okay', but then how do you build on this? It's essential to recognise frustration to be rational; the SNAP of a pencil identifies this. The project allowed me to prototype a concept whereby you use a wax pencil in your day to day life, and should you feel the need to let that anger out you SNAP away. The rebuilding of the pencil (in the mould) depicts how we can manage, and overcome our frustration and apply ourselves better to any future project.
