Snowboard design for DRAKE collection

When designers can get a little bit crazy

Northwave Drake, the snowboarding dedicated brand, partnered with Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice to create a unique snowboards collection made by design students.
The chicken or the egg causality
Feel free to laugh because this actually is the concept I used for my snowboard design. The only brief we had was to create a design story, in any graphic style we'd like… So I decided to push myself towards something quite different.
I was born in a very small village in the north-east of Italy and since I was a kid I always had animals around me. I guess the chicken is always been the funniest one for me so I decided to create a sort of homage to it :)
Photography, collage and typography have been merged to recreate the absolute dilemma: which one came first, the chicken or the egg?
This is a story that doesn't have a beginning or an end but it's a looping design narration that shows chickens’ and eggs’ life cycles, from a different (maybe a bit crazy) point of view.
For the typography my inspiration was, as you might have noticed, Sagmeister’s Lou Reed’s album cover. As for the images, these are a mix between photos I've taken and stock images. And yes, the ‘font’ used on the bottom side of the board is home cooked, literally.
Being a snowboarder myself I'm aware of how the ‘big’ snowboard brands’ boards look like and I just thought that having this chicken-egg looking board would be very noticeable in the slopes.
