Sound Effects: You Make Me Feel So Young

Sound effects is a project that creates structured boundaries within theatre. Using strict criteria of staging, some set objects, sound and length. Our job is to create a piece of theatre within a white letter box staging, incorporating a white three door wardrobe and a bench. The length of the piece has to be the full length of the chosen sound effect (all at least 6 minutes long.) To use one to three actors per piece, for myself this was just one actor. The sound effect which I chose was the sound of a ‘football crowd.’ When listening to each sound effect at the start of the project this was the piece which got my initial ideas flowing and I found the most engaging. I want to explore this idea of loneliness in men and self-acceptance alongside this. As this is something I have and do experience as a female but felt that the statistics in Men’s mental health isn’t as common knowledge. This stereotype that lads love football I think gives an opportunity for something under the surface to be spoken about.
