Second term at university. This is a 3 x 1 m canvas suspended in the sky (about 11ft off the ground). Painted in acrylic paint over the course of three days. It touches of the sanctity of life, how doctors (medicine, we) have the ability to play god. The high contrast orange background with brightness coming from the centre plays into the debate of whether we should interfere with life and the consequences that has but the hope is there, and growing. This was painted during 2021 when Covid was still about and massively affecting my life. The composition is from the sixteen chapel, the birth of Adam by Michael Angelo. In university the first thing I learnt was the idea of "mento mori" and it's stuck with me, feeding into my paintings. The idea that no one can escape death, it's there to humble in the use of the skeletal figure.
