I was nominated to be part of the organizing team for Spectrum 2016.
During the course of this project, the team faced a number of challenges that we had to learn to weather on our own.
We did not have a leader or a lecturer in charge to guide us, thus leaving us in a situation where no one would step up. We were also tasked with some items which our course of study did not prepare us for.
The team decided to first pick a leader whom we could turn to make the final decisions. I had the honour of being selected by my peers for this position.
After that was done, we divided the work for the project to each member based on their strengths as well as individual timing.
As the leader, I had the responsibility of pushing the team to meet deadlines and serving as the main liaison between the school and the team. I was also in charge of communicating with the external exhibition contractors and overseeing the entire event from start to finish.
As a team member, my tasks included designing the door gifts and promotional posters.
Working on this project taught me to identify and harness each individual team member’s strengths as well as the importance of decisive leadership
