SS23 'Godspeed' by Grace Kwon

Grace Kwon's Debut Collection showcased at London Fashion Week 13.06.22 From a time of mourning the loss of loved ones, designer Grace Kwon’s collection, Godspeed, transforms into a celebration of life and good wishes for journeys that follow. Myriad influences are intertwined in Grace’s trans-cultural background, with inspirations emerging from the burning of 金紙 joss paper at Chinese Buddhist funerals, through to billowing Victorian mourning dresses and then to 상복 (sangbok, traditional Korean mourning clothes) and integrates the opposing vibrancy and strict monochrome of the cultures’ death rituals. Rich, regal tones of burgundy, bronze, black, copper, green and soft gold are layered and gathered to form dramatic, covetable pieces as a tribute to those who have passed, and to ultimately rejoice in the promise of life to be lived to the full.
