Stand Still; Fig Leaves

  • Evelina Sarupiciute

This project delves into the relationship between memories about a fig tree from my childhood and body language which I use to respond to a surrounding environment. It documents my performative interventions in a specific location in London, which are linked to ideas of home. This place, which I keep returning to, brings back different memories and experiences every time, making it an intimate and personal space whilst still being public. As my body performs, the space shifts from ordinary to sublime, allowing me to become part of the surrounding. Odd body responses are a reaction to simultaneous connection and disconnection, where a camera becomes my only companion. The colour pink, as a result of a unique, analogue printing “glitch”, like flesh of a fig fruit, resonates for me with memories from childhood and symbolism of femininity.
