Strangers in Strange Places

Strangers in Strange Places is a series of podcasts that look at the history of club culture in London from the 1980s till now. There will be three episodes ranging up to thirty minutes long held by the author who interviews her participants on their involvement in London’s club culture. The first podcast will interview Princess Julia, an original ‘blitz kid’, DJ and music editor of i-D magazine, in her home in East London, asking how the London scene began in the 1980s. In the second podcast the author will interview DJ, record label owner and founder of DJ agency 'Theremin', Billy Nasty on the emergence of house music in london in the 90s, the exploding scene of club culture in London at the time and how it changed from being part of a subcultural group to a widely accepted activity. The third will look at young collective of DJs and producers who run their own club night: ‘Loose Lips’. This final episode will raise questions on the changing face of the London scene, such as the closure of established clubs like ‘Plastic People’ and ‘Madame Jojos’, and the difficulties promoters and DJs go through to keep club culture alive.
