Student Mental Health Feature

  • Lucas Ferguson
Midway through my second year of university, after having heard many of my friends talking about their declining mental health as a result of their studies, I set about putting together a podcast about student mental health. I chose to have it act as an entry into the topic rather than an action-oriented project, as from my personal experience improving one's mental health is a vastly different experience from person to person; instead, I reasoned, encouraging more people to talk about it will lead to a greater bank of communal knowledge.
I enlisted the help of the Wellbeing Officer for the Students' Union, a coursemate who had recently started blogging about their mental health, and the co-founders of a recently-created student society about the issue. Although I wasn't able to wrap up the issue in a satisfactory manner during my closing remarks and would certainly re-do it given the chance, I am still immensely proud of this work, and of the conversation it generated both through the content and my promotion of it.
