Swimming Pool (Young Lions Competitions Ukraine 2020)

This video took 1st place in the Film category at the Young Lions Competitions Ukraine 2020. The purpose of the video is to bring to the attention of the audience the social inequality experienced by a child from a poor family. A swimming pool was chosen as an allegory of a child’s life. Water is an aggregated image of the opportunities that allow a child to develop and move forward on equal terms with other kids. In the video, we can see a child doing basic swimming strokes despite the lack of water in the swimming pool (lack of basic possibilities/living conditions). Nevertheless, the child keeps moving forward, doing his best. The message of the video is to draw attention to the fact that adults can influence the life of this child and the obstacles he will have to face in his future life. In this video, we would like to encourage everyone not to judge kids based on their background or the family they come from, as children can’t choose the family they are born to. Regardless of their background, every child has the right to primary living conditions: education, health care, and social security.
