TEDx Performance - Spartiacque

  • Tommaso Cappellato

Tommaso Cappellato is an innovative drummer and producer whose inspiration crosses continents and genres. In this performance Tommaso uses electronic programming, created by visual artist Francesco Bevilacqua, to generate a visual improvisation through his drums and sensory percussion. The result is a multisensory dance between visuals and music, interspersed with words and phrases which invite the audience to consider questions of identity and their place in the world. Italian drummer, producer and selector Tommaso Cappellato is a musical maverick whose skills stretch from free-form electronics to hip hop beats and jazz improvisation. His unorthodox breadth of style is grounded in his own journey of musical discovery from building his jazz chops as a resident drummer in NYC, to hip hop excursions alongside Brooklyn MC’s, to traveling to Senegal to meld with local music masters, to collaborating with experimental electronica and techno artists worldwide. He appeared as an artist in residence at the Venice Biennale, Pioneer Works in New York and was nominated 2014’s Best New Artist on the Japanese Radio Inter.fm. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
