TEDxBrum 2017

  • Aliyah Hasinah

TEDxBrum is an independently organised and volunteer led event, proudly based in our home city of Birmingham. As Birmingham’s very own platform for ideas worth spreading enters its fifth iteration, the theme for this year’s event is perspectives and will feature 22 world-class speakers and 10 performers to cement Birmingham squarely on the map as a global leader in citizen-led change. The crucial challenge for society in the 21st Century is how we understand each other, relate to each other, and talk to each other, embracing many perspectives whilst challenging our own to expose new collective spaces where we can build a city to be proud of, together. Speakers include performance artist and writer Travis Alabanza, virtual reality pioneer and thought leader Catherine Allen, and Birmingham architect Glenn Howells. Performers include urban grime mc / singer Dapz, contemporary dance project Here We Are founded by Artist Director Becca Thomas, and “spoken-soul” poetry-music project The Dylema Collective. 2017 was the biggest TEDxBrum yet, at a time where these conversations between many people feel more important than ever. I was responsible for all artistic programming on mainstage, pop up performances and stage management.
