Thai police have seized assets and cash worth US$12.3 million, allegedly linked to an online gambling organisation that has reportedly established networks across Thailand, the country's public broadcaster reported.
Officers are said to have raided 52 locations in 10 provinces, and more than 40 suspects are in custody.
A police spokesperson said in the report that people calling "gangs" ran three "automated" gambling websites with more than 50,000 users.
In May, Thailand's majority-minority parties submitted a draft amendment to the country's gambling law with the aim of legalizing online gambling as well as its land casino business.
Other political voices in Thailand, which support the legalization of bricks and mortar casinos but fall short of the legalization of the online format, even argued that the move could help curb the extent of unregulated gambling in Thailand.
In late July, a parliamentary committee reviewing Thailand's introduction of casino resorts submitted a report to the National Assembly.
The document is said to have recommended a decree to the government that allows "entertainment complexes" containing legal casinos to be installed in various places across the country.
