The Algarve - Beyond The Beach

About ‘The Algarve – Beyond the Beach’ series I had wanted to do a photographic road trip for some time – I just couldn’t decide where! A Portuguese friend of mine from Albufeira suggested the Algarve. I had not seen any exhibitions in the UK devoted to the area so I decided I would focus on this part of Portugal. I undertook some research into the fascinating and extraordinary history of the region, though I was also keen to focus on what I saw with my own eyes on the trip. As well as the famous sites, I wanted to stop at places that looked interesting but were perhaps not so well known. I completed three photographic trips to the region in 2017 and 2018. In addition to the wonderful beaches, I wanted the images that I shot to show the varied landscape and architecture of the region.
