Master degree project : "Cabinet of Omokage"
‘The Cabinet of Omokage’ began with my idea that Japanese aesthetics relating to art and design would be different if Western cultures merged to Japanese culture in early stage of Japanese history.
The project reflects the Japanese persons unique interpretation of possessions and how these objects affect the lives, aesthetics and philosophies of the Japanese person.
Through creating a unique interpretation of Japanese methods of aesthetics, I am taking inculturation back to the beginning of the 17th century.
Although this inculturation happened centuries ago, there are still cultural difference between the West and Japan. The Cabinet is a personal recreation of my feelings of ambiguity toward my identity, which also offers a chance for the audience to see his or her cultural identities through my project.
