The Ciambra

Project management and grassroots support/regional marketing campaign in Bristol for the film "The Ciambra" (distributed by Peccadillo Pictures). The film was released in the UK on June 15th 2018. Executive-produced by Martin Scorsese, THE CIAMBRA is a neo-realistic coming-of-age drama set within Italy's marginalised Roma community where the lines between childhood and adulthood are blurred out of necessity and survival. Invoking the spirit of THE BICYCLE THIEVES, THE CIAMBRA is a must-see acclaimed drama from promising talent Jonas Carpignano. In a small Romani community in Calabria, Pio Amato is desperate to grow up fast. Pio follows his older brother Cosimo everywhere, learning the necessary skills for life on the streets of their hometown. When Cosimo disappears and things start to go wrong, Pio sets out to prove he's ready to step into his big brother's shoes but soon finds himself faced with an impossible decision that will show if he is truly ready to become a man.

I focused on engaging the local Roma community in Bristol and a youth audience by commissioning RIFE magazine to create content as a response to the film. They worked with filmmaker Drew Cox to create a fascinating short film about the unique challenges the Roma community faces.
‘I would never want a person to go through what me and my family went through’
Roma students from City Academy talked about their experiences of moving from Romania to Bristol. They share their stories of dealing with the police, being new at school, keeping traditions alive and talk about what it really means to belong. The group worked on the project for six weeks, sharing stories of what it was like to come to Bristol from Romania, the dealings they’ve had with the police. More on the process at Bristol 24/7.
