In September 2017, The Sermon Arts Collective curated ‘The Concept’ exhibition in which four up-and-coming artists were given the opportunity to showcase their work to a wider audience. A variety of artistic mediums were showcased, all demonstrating the theme of “unapologetic and overlooked beauty”, with activist and illustrator Florence Given using her art as a means of commenting on transphobia, sexism and racism; photographer Meg Phelan using her images to explore the societal taboos attached to the female form, and photographer Gillian Murray capturing the beauty of black women with her portraiture. In addition, fashion designer ‘Axiom’ displayed a number of their luxury garments, using models as a performance art method of presentation.
