The Digitalisation of the Recording Industry and its Effect on Micro-independent Record Labels Involved with Underground Dance Music

  • Ross Scarth
During my undergraduate studies I was shown various areas of the creative industries through music industry modules, establishing specific interests within the Recording Industry and the moving trends to digital technologies. This attraction lead me to undertake my research project in which I explored the digitization of independent record labels and it specific role within dance music culture which I received first class honors for.
For my dissertation, I examined the operation and management of micro-independent labels as well as determining the structure of the recording industry, by investigating how their methods of marketing and distribution varied throughout. This experience enabled me to connect and interact with industry representatives, gaining highly refined communication skills and providing me with a comprehensive perception of the roles involved within the dance music industry.
