"Cindy Gallop has broadened the scope of her push to root out sexual harassment by calling on the advertising industry to embark on its own bout of soul searching in the wake of snowballing allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against film producer Harvey Weinstein.
Reaching out directly to other potential victims in a Facebook post, Gallop called on them to seize the moment by coming forward to document their own experiences, either direct or witnessed, in order to root out similar predators closer to home.
Gallop wrote: “I want to see if I can encourage even just a handful of brave women to do what the incredibly brave women who spoke to Jodi Kantor of the New York Times did, which is to come forward, tell stories and name names in a way that would encourage the resultant launch of outpourings [that] has happened in the Harvey Weinstein saga.
“I just want to see if this is the moment in time when I can encourage just a few women to do that in a way that will then break this wide open in our industry, in the same way that this has been broken wide open in Hollywood.”
Ad industry veteran Gallop has been a vocal critic of a culture of silence having fallen victim to harassment herself in addition to hearing accounts from other women about their own experiences.
Gallop is keen to capitalise on the present furore engulfing Weinstein to press for a change in culture to engender a fully gender neutral work environment.
Last week Gallop led calls for a 24 hour Twitter boycott in a show of solidarity with Weinstein accuser Rose McGowan who, was banned from temporarily from using her Twitter account".
