THE FORGOTTEN PRINCE

  • Chloé Buckley

This concept came to my knowledge from a diary written by Peter, a resident of Oakley, which is close to the Malshanger estate, which is where my story began. The story is inspired by Prince George, the Duke of Kent. He is now known as ‘The Forgotten Prince’. He has been removed from history and shamed upon by the royal family. The Duke of Kent got up to many questionable antics, such as getting arrested in West-End London for prostitution in drag and charged with soliciting. He had multiple homosexual love affairs. The Duke was eventually killed in a plane crash, which was completely off course as it crashed over Scotland where Hess, Hitler’s deputy was in 1940. It was rumoured that the Duke was going to meet with him; no one ever knew why Hess came to Scotland. There are suspicious this crash was organised by Winston Churchill and other senior members of the establishment. I have pulled many aspects of this thorough concept through into my designs. Include double-breasted blazers and innovative tailoring. Many of my garments are asymmetric this emphasises the unsteadiness of his life and the scramble of trying to be who he really with the contrasting pull of the royal family. My collection is romantic and sexy, which has many nods at lingerie worn around the time. Sheer and hanging pearls are key features and add amazing moment to my garments. Having a tonal collection way key in not having the effect of the textured fabric and also key elements taken away. My collection had been selected for Graduate Fashion Week 2020 and I have also been nominated for the 'Fashion Concept Award' at Graduate Fashion Week 2020.
