The Gorrila In The Cupboard is based on the inhumane event that occurred on the 7th of August 2019: The Mississippi ICE raids. Where 680 undocumented immigrants were arrested, leaving their children alone, with no food or home. I tried to draw the family of Magdalena Gomez Gregorio, a young girl whose father was taken and detained in the raid, and that in an interview she beg the government to show some heart, that her father was a good person, and that now she had no idea what to do. The poem featured, was written by José Bello, who in May 2019, at a Truth Act Forum held by the Kern County Board of supervisors, read this poem criticising the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). 38 hours after reading the poem -which he wrote after being in ICE custody in 2018- he was arrested.
