Released in 2011, Prisoner is The Jezabels’ Aria award winning, debut full length album. It reached No.2 on the ARIA charts and won the 2011 Australian Music Prize.
Based on the idea of disrupted freedom, we wanted to create a visual language that was as powerful, dramatic and expansive as the music it was packaging. We commissioned Pierre Toussaint to shoot a series of desolate Australian landscapes on medium format film, resulting in a set of stark images that were then interrupted and ruined — a celebration of the beautiful, the bleak and the broken.
The artwork was nominated for an Aria award in 2012 and formed the basis of a photographic exhibition at Mart Gallery.
