The Kin Hotel

  • Maria Goad

During my recent trip to Japan, I was struck by the captivating ruins scattered throughout the country, particularly the raw concrete structures that have been reclaimed by nature. These hauntingly beautiful spaces inspired me to create a capsule hotel that combines the rugged beauty of nature with the comfort of modern living. Drawing on the Japanese word “haikyo,” which translates to “ruins” in English, I sought to capture the essence of these abandoned spaces and infuse it into my design. To bring my concept to life, I utilized a combination of AI-generated conceptual images and developed a cohesive brand identity. To complement the raw concrete aesthetic, I incorporated bold accents of red - a nod to the iconic red stairways commonly found throughout Tokyo.
