The Lily Pond

  • Emily Sharp

Initially inspired by my visit to the Lily House at Kew Gardens, this project is an illustrative celebration of the natural world. I have incorporated creatures which are often overlooked, such as snails and toads, to begin to create a whimsical narrative which transforms them into something beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. The concept of value and how value can be added to something and represented is introduced. My aim is to bring an essence of luxury into the ‘ordinary home,’ through the incorporation of Victorian glamour and opulence. Through luxurious statement pieces including wallpaper and soft furnishing designs, detailed pattern, rich colour palettes and intricate design add accents of luxury to the interior space. This is similar to the chaotic interiors of a Victorian Upper Class home, where valuable objects were placed and framed as trophies within this setting. My designs act in a similar way, being the focal point of the room. I aim for my designs to cater for a wide audience within an interior setting, some designs within the collection are heavily focus on illustration and text, whilst other designs are more simplified, with less focus on illustration and character portrayal.
