We were thrilled when we received this commission from the Netflix Bridgerton spin-off, “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.” The opportunity to create a bronzed effect statue of Atlas holding the globe for the pivotal final ball scene in Episode 6 was an exciting challenge for our talented team. The sculpture was to be the centrepiece of elegance. The Atlas statue was destined to be the centrepiece of a crucial ball scene, a moment of grandeur that would captivate viewers. We understood the significance of this moment and were determined to create a sculpture that would truly impress. However, realism needed to meet practicality. Although the statue was only required for a single ball scene, the advancements in television technology demanded that it appear as realistic as possible. Viewers with high-definition screens would be able to scrutinize every detail, so precision was paramount. For the globe and inner support structure of the statue, our skilled team of metalworkers bent and welded a dramatic-looking sphere and arrow. For the Atlas sculpture itself, we chose polystyrene as the base material. Its lightweight properties allowed for ease of handling and transportation, ensuring a smooth production process. For protection, we coated the sculpture with jesmonite, a specialized material that provides a lightweight yet robust surface. The true magic happened though during the art-working phase. Our skilled artists used bronzed paints to add depth and heft to the statue, creating the illusion of a solid, heavy structure. It was a delicate balance between realism and practicality, and our team worked tirelessly to strike the perfect equilibrium. The end result after days of meticulous work, the Atlas statue stood proudly, ready to take centre stage. Its presence exuded elegance and sophistication, helping to elevate the entire ballroom scene to another level. As the actors graced the dance floor, the statue served as a magnificent backdrop, adding an air of grandeur to the moment. Being a part of the Netflix Bridgerton spin-off, “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story,” was an honour for our team. The creation of the Atlas statue allowed us to showcase our passion for artistry and craftsmanship while pushing the boundaries of realism in production design. It’s moments like these that remind us of the magic that can be achieved through the collaboration of talented individuals. As you continue to enjoy the “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” series, remember the artistry that brought the Atlas statue to life and immerse yourself in the allure of period drama.
