The Rashomon Effect Comic Project

  • Emily Williams

This is my graduate project based around the Rashomon Effect, a device in storytelling where the same events are told from different people's perspectives, often with conflicting or different outcomes. I explored this theme in the form of a comic book, where I told my own original story based around the theme of con artists.

The two perspectives of my story were split into two standalone stories that could be read in tandem to get the full picture of the events taking place. "The Fiddle Game" is the story as told from the perspective of the con artists and "Pig in a Poke" is the story as told from the perspective of the victim.
I chose the colour palette based on the design of my two main characters; Rosy and Colette. I used each character's hair colour as the theme to show which perspective the reader is seeing.
