The skies over Brasília is a series of experimentations in the darkroom and with the photocopier all done at Bright Rooms, Peckham. The online project is a sketchbook of sorts, a way publish the work while working on a series of books with these images. Series of photographs taken in Brasília, April 2019. Back in April I drove to Brasília, capital city of Brazil, a city where I lived as a child and have fond memories of; its infinite blue skies, empty spaces and grand architecture. Most unfortunately I wanted to see & document the rise of the new far right government, the sort of spiritual death of the city ideals which was freshly built with socialist leanings in mind. Since then I’ve been working with the fire & the light of fire, and it’s symbols surrounding transformation and destruction. I’ve been going over darkroom prints, picture frames and split colour photocopy work. Unfortunate that recently the wrath of fire & greed became so relevant to Brazilian politics.
