Walls are just as important for cities as skin is for the human body, and not just in a metaphorical sense. Every city has walls that are a visible and important part of its identity. They’re often the first thing you notice when you visit a city. Walls and cities go hand in hand. They stand the test of time, recording the traces of years. No matter what period you look at, you’ll find lots of signs engraved on them, or to put it another way, tattooed. From commercial advertising posters to political slogans. This collection could be described as urban photography, which avoids recording any perspective with a direct view. It studies the signs of Tehran’s skin in the mid-2010s. While putting this collection together, I was inspired by Lewis Baltz’s work, which has high contrast and a neutral, detached perspective. I took all these photos myself using black and white film and did the developing and printing too. This is just a small selection from the collection.
