The Tree of life - Life is Built on Words

  • Usua Perez Echegoyen
Buddhist ideology claims the totality of all being. Being with land, with air, with nature, with humanity. The tree symbolizes humanity that feeds from the air and the earth. This tree has leaves made out of pages of books. Buddha said that “We are what we say; we are the words we use”. Through words we are known, we communicate what we feel and what we think. Like the tree, each individual is made out of words.

The piece had a sculptural intention, but contained a greater impact as photographic work. The total of thirty photographs shows different views of the tree of life. Resulting in them a complex living tangle; as if it were the DNA helixes.

Three images of the 25 images of the series were exhibited in the contemporary art centre, El Matadero in Madrid for the exhibition Typo_Mad_12 run by the Design Center DIMAD in October to November 2012
