The University of London - How Computers Work

  • Chantelle Linane

Producer: Kumail Tayyebkhan My roles: Illustrator and animator Software used: Illustrator, After Effects I worked with a small team at the University of London to design and animate graphics for a new online Computer Science degree course. I was responsible for illustrating icons and diagrams that would clearly and accurately represent the course content for each video. After a bit of experimenting, we decided to use a simple black and white palette, and retain a hand-drawn, sketchiness that was similar to white-board drawings. The graphics were drawn in Illustrator and then animated in After Effects. The nature of the animation would depend on the content of each video. Some of the illustrations were animated on a loop to play in the background. Other times, I would need to animate a process taking place or re-create diagrams according to clearly demonstrate what the tutors' were explaining.
