The Wave Box for CJ Mirra - STATIC (Original Surf Soundtracks, Vol. 1)

The Wave Box was produced in response to STATIC (Original Surf Soundtracks, Vol. 1). A collaboration between award-winning composer CJ Mirra and filmmaker Chris McClean. The crashing waves captured in McClean’s films and pictured on the album’s artwork inspired the concept. I wanted to immerse people in the sound of those crashing waves, and build a beautiful box to house the record. When lifted up, the box itself makes the sound of the sea. Depending on how the box is tilted, the waves roar violently or lap gently against the shore. The product itself becomes an instrument through which people can experience the music in a truly unique, immersive and enjoyable way. The Wave Box was recognised for its excellence in design by Creative Review Awards and featured in the 2020 Annual. The Wave Box was also won a place on the D&AD shortlist for packaging design/Limited edition 2020.
