'The Way To Your Heart'

  • Violet Sinclair

For my final project at Bath Spa, my print collection was inspired by a number of things, the first one being the eight types of love from greek mythology. The main types of love that I focused on were 'Eros' passion, 'Philia' friendship & 'Storge' family. With these love types at the core of my inspiration, I also looked at: the victorian language of flowers, victorian love notes and puzzles, 'lovers eye' jewels, classical art such as Rossetti's 'Proserpine', classic pattern designers such as William Morris, and folk art. I created groups centred around the greek love types that consisted of: flowers and plants (that were influenced by the victorian language of flowers), colour palettes (influenced by the mood of each love type), and any significant motifs within each category such as the pomegranate for the 'Eros' love type. Using all of this research and inspiration, I created a body of illustrations and then used them to create my patterns. My collection is made up of repeat patterns and placement prints containing my illustrations, they consist of a variety of motifs that were inspired my collection research. I had my patterns printed onto linen fabric and wallpaper drops and they are aimed at the interiors market.

Exhibiting my final collection at New Designers 2023.
