The Wind In The Willows

  • Ellen Covey
Book cover for “The Wind in the Willows” aimed at children reading the novel for the first time, and their parents re-discovering it.

A hand-crafted book cover that avoids the typical garish, twee or patronising styles. This design gives a young audience the respect and intelligence that a book of this reading level deserves, as well as appealing to the parents who are likely to buy it for them. The characters are not overly anthropomorphised, and the shapes are minimalist and open to some interpretation, yet the visuals retain a fun and energetic atmosphere.

The cover was developed through several sketched and hand-cut iterations, before a final laser cut version was made from coloured stock, then photographed and composited. The text is hand-lettered to emphasise a playful feel.
