The Wonder of Scotland's Water

  • Robyn Young

Speak to any Scot and they’ll likely say that the tap water tastes good. However, Scotland’s water deserves to be described as more than just ‘good’. It’s excellent, wholesome, clean, clear and most importantly available for all. Intending to inspire the people of Scotland I designed and built a whimsical Tap Bar that would parade around Edinburgh, hopefully strengthening our connection with our natural resource. Included in the project is a water wall with graphics brought to life using animation and water falling in front of them. Ultimately, Scotland’s Water is a project intended to create the foundations for Scotland to form an identity on an international stage based on our wonderful resource.

The Tap Water Bar

The Tap Water Bar was an upcycled project. I art directed the communications to be whimsical and was inspired by running fresh water's fluid movement. This inspiration lead me to reject contempory communications often attatched to water as clean sans serif type in black and white.

The Process: Research, Production and Final Outcome

Supporting Material

With engaging tasks people would learn how every part of their body uses water. This take away pack is designed to be colourful and fun to encourage conversations.
Along with grabbing a drink the public could learn how much fresh water is required to produce their favourite meals in an illustrated menu. The price has been converted into the amount of litres needed to make that dish, reminding us that we do not just drink water we consume it in our food. It is vital for life.
