this is about music and numbers

The brief called to investigate different ways of making visual typographic notations in order to create a music score for Philip Glass’ opera, 'Einstein on the Beach'. The book this is about music and numbers visually investigates the layers of melody, rhythm, numerics and text and highlights the harmony within the music to give the reader a better understanding of the opera itself. There is no story, no rhyme or reason in 'Einstein'. The typographic approach for this piece was to incorporate a contemporary typeface along with a monospaced typeface. For the cover page, a metal plate was cast using LL Circular, Bold, 18pt and printed on WHATMAN 350gsm paper run through the FAG Swiss Proof 40 in The Distillers Press, NCAD. The inside pages of the book were printed on Munken Polar Rough, uncoated 150gsm paper. The tracing paper leaves are Daler Rowney Acid Free, 90gsm.  In 2016, 'this is about music and numbers' was submitted successfully and earned membership into the International Society of Typographic Designers.
