Using our state-of-the-art BrandBox Identification Machine, we will determine your true identity from nothing but a list of brands you like, dislike or haven’t even heard of. After just one session with the BrandBox your identification will begin, personalising one of our millions of identity types. Our Identity Packages come with two items; Your Guide is where you will find all the rules, details and instructions on how to successfully live with your new identity. No stone is left unturned in these handy manuals. Secondly your Totem. One object that encapsulates everything about you, from your favourite foods to your deepest troubles. Without it, you simply wouldn’t feel complete. We guarantee that after just three months with your Identity Package, you will feel like a brand new person. Terms and conditions apply.

I used this project to explore my interest in branding and consumer experiences. I wanted to focus on how we (as consumers) use brands and possessions to curate our own identities. Typically, our personality and who we are as an individual guides the things we buy, and informs our brand preferences. THIS IS ME exists in a reality where that system is reversed, meaning the brands we like directly determine our entire identity.

It was important to me that this project balanced satire with sincerity to make a humorous but intriguing outcome, as well as reflect me as a designer. By forcing the observer to question how much of this project is ‘real’ or ‘possible’, I hope to let them reflect on how much power they give brands and possessions in their own lives - for better or for worse.
