My BA graduate collection, “This Must Be the Beginning of the End” revolves around the idea that a British subculture is being invaded by Martians. Inspired by the 1897 novel “The War of the Worlds” and Modculture. For the collection to be an exploration of myself, I found it important to explore a subculture that does not necessarily represent me. I was intrigued by the importance of Mod culture in British fashion and music. Researching visual references from Mod culture and exploring ways of ‘invading’ the subculture through materialism inspired by the key imagery and themes of the novel.
