Tied/Untied

Tied/Untied is a short film I created to show the intricate beauty of rope. For me, this project was about exploring rope in a non-sexualised way, but in an intimate, sensual way. I wanted to show the personal connection between the rigger and the rope bottom, the trust between the two is a huge aspect of rope and this is the intimacy I wanted to focus on. I felt that the slow movements and soft ambience, created by the natural lighting, all attributed to achieving this aesthetic. The idea of creating a split screen, was to show the many contrasts within rope — particularly the acts of being tied and untied; each screen focused on similar parts of the body to emphasise this. Each screen also showed subtleties of different contrasts, such as, pain and pleasure, and tension and relief.
