TIME - a degree show show piece

  • Rowena Jane Edwards
An interactive installation designed and created for my final degree show at Chelsea School of Art. Using concepts of travel, nostalgia, memory and time, I created this capsule to surround my audience with an interactive experience, inviting them to walk in and respond to the piece by pushing the buttons in front of them. This then generated sound, and caused an image to light up on the back wall, a different image for each button. The images themselves were of three scenes I had photographed within the three years of the course in London, a research trip in Japan, and my home in Wales. All three locations had a significant part to play towards my development as an artist, and therefore in generating the concept itself. The aim of the piece was to emphasis location, mimicking the idea of travel, and emphasising the notion of longing to be somewhere else. Where would you go if there were such a thing as time travel, and why are you not there right now? By asking these questions and surrounding my audience with lights, sound and images I studied the relationship between the audience and the atmosphere, and explored the idea of memory and how that can influence the audiences and thier opinion.
