Time to Dance - Panic! At the Disco (Music Video)

  • Amy Lee
For part of my A-Level course for Creative Media Production, we had to create our own music video. We chose a song called Time to Dance by Panic! At the Disco, the band never did a music video for the song, so we thought it was a good chance for us to create our own interpretation of the song's meaning without having the help of a official music video. The music video itself is based off the lyrics of the song, we helped warp the lyrics into a narrative.

The narrative of the music video is based off the movie Groundhog day where he relives the same day over and over, this is what we tried to do. She wakes up with a blood wound in the middle of an unknown room not knowing where she is, as she walks around obliviously not knowing what is happening untill she walks into a room where she sees herself lying dead on the ground. She then runs away where again she walks in another room where she sees herself again but with a stranger taking photos of her. He then walks out the room, walking past her. She follows him where she ends up in the room she woke up in, but this time she finds a line of photos of us her on a string, with writing underneath that is referring to the lyrics of the song. As she looks as the photos she freaks out where she is then greeted by the stranger who then shoots her in the exactly the same spot she woke up in.
To make an authentic music video, we all wanted to have a balance of the band and the narrative. It's important to see the singer in motion to see how they express the lyrics as well as the band to get the recognition they deserve. Not all music videos need a narrative the performance is enough to entertain their target audience.
But adding that narrative in between helps brings the lyrics to life and gives the audience an idea of how the band interprets their own lyrics.
