Tory Island

  • Cian Oba-Smith
Tory Island is located 9 miles of the coast of Donegal with a population of just 96. It relies mainly on tourism to survive and money brought back from jobs on the mainland. Although fishing used to be a major source of income, sustainability legislation has prevented it from being a viable source for residents, this has resulted in the majority of the younger generation moving away causing the population of the island to decrease. This project looks at the effect of isolation on the island and focuses on a community frozen in a different period of time making uncertain steps towards its future.
