Type 1

  • Scarlet Evans
Three years ago my sister Velvet was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This series documents a night she spent in hospital getting fitted with an Insulin pump, after spending three years on the waiting list. She wears the pump on her arm, and it has helped to regulate her blood sugar more effectively. Velvet has had to cope with a lot, but she is an incredibly resilient child and is gradually coming to terms with her condition. When she thinks about life before her diagnosis, she says that she felt unsafe not knowing what was wrong with her. Now Velvet is healthy, happy and life is beginning to go back to normal.
