I worked with London-based Nexus Design Studio and director Harry Butt to create typographic animations for Japanese coffee brand Ueshima Coffee Company's new campaign.
The two creative routes feature an animated cat performing a different coffee making task. The ten-second spots both begin with an extreme closeup of the cat's face before resolving to the final lockup featuring the Ueshima logo along with large Japanese titling with English translation.
The titling needed to animate into frame in a way that felt coherent and balanced with the rest of the scene. By using a subtle left-to-right motion on each character, along with cloud-like masking, I was able to draw on the pastoral elements of the animation's backdrop while creating a sense of depth and information hierarchy.
