ULTRA JAPAN FINAL GRADUATE COLLECTION Final collection inspired by two cultures, Japanese culture and 90's Hip-hop culture and ecstatic. The collection pulls inspiration from iconic figures of the Hip-hop icons of the time i.e Slick Rick, Killa Cam, Lil Kim. I looked at the oversize jewelry , clothing and prints of the time. I looked at the way they would feature bold prints and motifs on their clothing to inspire my own as well as the block coloring. I used the the traditional Japanese Kimono as the base for my prints well also paying Homage to Japan. To create the prints i looked at the Japanese art of Shunga as well as its modern take on by Artist Toshio Saeki, the boldness of colour and prints is where i took my inspiration. Each Kimono was made from a different material, one bamboo, the next silk and the last was nylon. Each print was digitally created but started with an initial hand drawing and then developed. The hiragana on the silk and bamboo was screen printed and means Lily.
