While the sounds of the ocean are relaxing for us, the sounds we create underwater threaten marine life! UOTO is a campaign that seeks to raise awareness about #OceanNoisePollution on #EarthDay because what would earth be without its lungs? This campaign has been done in partnership with @bigblueoceancleanup as official entity to link this idea with and to offer further resources. For this campaign we partnered up with an organization to offer further information about the topic and to help with donations that could contribute to cleaning our oceans and education efforts about the different types of pollution. We chose Big Blue Ocean Clean Up.

We created a Youtube channel under the name “Ultrasounds of the Ocean” and uploaded videos that looked like your regular ocean inspired meditation but ended up being disturbing, noisy tracks to make listeners not only feel what underwater creatures go through everyday but also to experience the surprise/unexpected factor of it.
On Twitter, we wanted to make some noise on behalf those who can’t. So we used the new feature Voice Tweets to tweet the most known underwater noises created by humans; seismic air guns, propellers and navy sonar.
As a CTA, we also wanted to encourage some further action with a petition at change.org. We are asking for the creation of an International Day for Ocean Noise Pollution Awareness because we believe it will help giving visibility to the problem, put pressure on the big companies/government and educate the public.
